Hjem is the dream project of Swedish chef Alex Nietosvuori and his partner, Northumberland-born Ally Thompson who have joined forces to create a destination restaurant which represents the very best of their respective backgrounds, in the heart of Hadrian’s Wall country.

After spending 20 years gaining experience across some of the top restaurants in Scandinavia and the UK, the couple felt ready to start realising their ambition of opening their own restaurant against a stunning Northumberland backdrop.

Home is where good food is

Restaurant Hjem is located in the small village of Wall in the beautiful Northumberland countryside. Hjem (pronounced "yem") is both a Northumbrian and Scandinavian word for "home", making it an apt name for the restaurant which sees the very best produce of Northumberland come together with Scandinavian values and cooking techniques.

Tucked away within the popular pub, The Hadrian at Wall, the 24-seat restaurant, which boasts a stunning open kitchen, brings the flavours and style of Scandinavia to the Tyne Valley with an ambitious tasting menu.
